CAN OUR DRIVERS CHANGE IDLE SMART’S SETTINGS?
Idle Smart is typically password protected and so drivers don't usually have permission to change any Idle Smart settings. All parameters and settings are controlled wirelessly through Idle Smart's Remote Management dashboard.

General Idle Smart Questions
DOES IDLE SMART WORK AUTOMATICALLY?
Yes. Idle Smart is automatically engaged when the key is in the "Off" position or out of the ignition altogether. As a result, drivers do not need to do anything to enable Idle Smart. This allows fleets to get the maximum benefit from Idle Smart without adding any more work to a drivers day.

HOW MUCH DOES THE IDLE SMART SOLUTION WEIGH?
Fully installed, the Idle Smart solution weighs around 5 pounds.
IS IDLE SMART TRANSFERRABLE ACROSS VEHICLES?
Yes. Idle Smart can be transferred across vehicles and is not dependent upon the engine type.
HOW MUCH MONEY CAN I SAVE WITH IDLE SMART?
Like most things in life, it depends. We don't pretend to know your business better than you do...but we do know that you will save money with Idle Smart. For example, existing Idle Smart users have seen as much as a 70% reduction in overnight idling. If you are on the road 45 weeks a year and have 40 hours of overnight idle during those weeks, using a 50% reduction in idling would generate roughly $3,600 per year in fuel savings. Maybe your savings is a little higher, maybe it's a little lower, only you will know that. What we do know is that you'll likely be able to pay for Idle Smart within one year and not have a lot of ongoing maintenance expenses or worries about the lifespan of the product. Idle Smart is designed to work for as long as you own it, and is backed by our Lifetime Product Warranty.
IS THE IDLE SMART SOLUTION AN AUXILIARY POWER UNIT (APU)?
No. While they solve the same problem - excessive idle time - unlike APUs, the Idle Smart solution weighs less than 5 pounds and requires no ongoing maintenance or replacement costs. In short, the Idle Smart solution is economical at both the time of purchase and over the life of its use.
CAN IDLE SMART PROTECT AGAINST COLD STARTS DURING COLD WEATHER MONTHS?
Yes. Because Idle Smart continuously monitors ambient temperature, Idle Smarts Cold Weather Guard™ will remotely start an unoccupied vehicle when enabled. Fleet managers can set Idle Smart to detect temperatures ranging from 0° to 40° and run the vehicle when the outside temperature falls below this level. The vehicle run time can be personalized to run times of 15 minutes to 2 hours. If enabled, Cold Weather Guard™ will monitor ambient temperature when the vehicle is unoccupied for extended periods of time (e.g., home time, 34 hour rest period).
WHAT IS THE IDLE SMART SOLUTION?
Idle Smart is an automated engine start stop solution that reduces overnight idle time, provides year round cabin comfort and maintains fleet uptime by keeping batteries charged and engines warm. Idle Smart's compact, lightweight system continuously monitors interior and ambient temperatures to safely and efficiently start and stop vehicles to reduce fuel consumption. In addition, Idle Smart can start vehicles to help maintain the batteries and to prevent cold starts. Idle Smart is compatible with most makes and models and will always be backed by our Lifetime Product Warranty.
WILL IDLE SMART MONITOR BATTERY VOLTAGE LEVELS?
Yes. If enabled, Idle Smart's Battery Protect™ will continuously monitor battery voltage and run the vehicle's engine for the desired amount of time when the voltage goes below a customer-programmed level. The default battery voltage level is 12.2v, but that can be set to any level within a range of 11.2v and 12.7v. The default run time to recharge batteries is 20 minutes, but that can be set to any level within a range of 10 to 120 minutes. If enabled, Battery Protect™ will monitor batteries when the vehicle is occupied as well as when the vehicle is unoccupied for extended periods of time (e.g., home time, 34 hour rest period).
WHY IS IDLE REDUCTION IMPORTANT?
Reducing overnight idling is critical for a number of reasons. First and foremost, idling is expensive. According to the ATRI, fuel and oil costs are nearly one-third of the operating cost of a vehicle. Overnight idling for a typical sleeper cab can be as much as 3,000 hours per year, which, at one gallon per hour and $4.00 a gallon for diesel, can drive over $10,000 of unnecessary cost to an operator. I don't know about you, but that's real money to us! In addition, excess idling shortens the time between maintenance intervals.
