Idle Smart Solution Overview
WHAT IS IDLE SMART?
Idle Smart is a proprietary automated engine start stop solution that reduces fleets' fuel consumption as well as vehicle downtime caused by dead batteries and cold start conditions.
IS IDLE SMART AN AUXILIARY POWER UNIT (APU)?
No. Idle Smart uses the vehicle's engine and existing HVAC to heat and cool the cabin, charge batteries, and warm the engine and fuel lines. With Idle Smart, there's no second power unit, no extra maintenance, and no extra weight.
DO OUR DRIVERS NEED TO TURN ON IDLE SMART EACH DAY?
No. Idle Smart is automatically engaged when the key is placed in the "Off" position or out of the ignition altogether. As a result, drivers do not need to do anything to enable Idle Smart. This allows fleets to get the maximum benefit from Idle Smart without adding any more work to a driver's day.
CAN OUR DRIVERS CHANGE IDLE SMART’S SETTINGS?
Only if you choose to allow them to. By default, Idle Smart is password protected and so drivers don't have permission to change any Idle Smart settings. All parameters and settings are controlled wirelessly through Idle Smart's Fleet Management Software.
DOES IDLE SMART AUTOMATICALLY MONITOR BATTERY VOLTAGE LEVELS?
Yes. Idle Smart's Battery Protect™ continuously monitors both main and auxiliary battery voltage levels and will automatically start the vehicle and run it until the desired voltage level or state of charge is reached.
DOES IDLE SMART PROTECT AGAINST COLD STARTS DURING COLD WEATHER MONTHS?
Yes. Because Idle Smart continuously monitors engine temperature, Idle Smarts Cold Weather Guard™ will automatically start and run the vehicle until the engine reaches an appropriate operating range (e.g., 140 degrees).
WHAT IS IDLE SMART'S FLEET MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE SUITE?
Idle Smart's Fleet Management Software Suite allows a fleet manger complete control of Idle Smart's parameters from anywhere in North America. Whether it be at a vehicle, terminal, or fleet level, our Fleet Management Software will provide operational reporting and diagnostic alerts to ensure that you are always getting the most benefit from Idle Smart.
DOES IDLE SMART WORK WITH ALL VEHICLES, TRANSMISSIONS AND ENGINES?
Idle Smart is designed and optimized to work with any 2007 and newer vehicle, regardless of make, transmission, or engine.
HOW MUCH MONEY CAN I SAVE WITH IDLE SMART?
A lot. And while every fleet is different - preferred OEM, length of haul, geography, weight, you name it - we are confident that an investment in Idle Smart will pay for itself within one year. For example, a vehicle that's on the road 45 weeks a year and have 40 hours of overnight idle during those weeks, using the low end of typical results (50% reduction in idling) would generate roughly $2,500 per year in fuel savings.
